Junior Organisers
Sadly, Mike and Davina Brimacombe have had to resign the role ofd Junior organiser because they have had to move house to eastbourne. they have also changed golf clubs becuase it is too far to travel.
We take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to them for all they brought to the junior section in the past 18 months.
We have appointed a new junior organiser named Robert Bardwell. Robert works with the Worth school and teaches golf to the pupils. We do hope we can encourage juniors to play more competitions and represent the club in competitions between other clubs.

The 2009 Junior Club Championship took place on Sunday 30th August 2009.
Singing Hills Golf Club held it’s Junior Club Championship day at their Albourne course on Sunday 30th August. There were some excellent performances in good playing conditions on the day and prizes were presented by an old friend of the club, former professional footballer and Match of the Day presenter, Jimmy Hill, accompanied by his wife Bryony. The Club Scratch Champion was Chris Croucher (pictured with Jimmy Hill) with a gross score of 145. Chris also won the Club Championship earlier this year. Handicap Champion was Ollie Cheesman(Nett 134), in second place his brother, Harrison Cheesman(136) and in third place Max Paton(137). Best am handicap round was Jonathan Dungay( 70) and best p.m. handicap was Jack Bason (69). Nearest the pins were won by Alex Fieldsend and Nick Eastell and a special prize for shot of the day was awarded to the youngest player in the field, 11 year old Tim O'Boyle
Jimmy Hill commented on how impressed he was with the efforts Singing Hills is making to nurture junior golf and on the smart turnout of the young people. He also said how pleased he was to see the parents attend to encourage their young golfers. At present Singing Hills gives a free lesson to beginners and holds regular Saturday morning group golf lessons at a nominal charge of £5 per head. Working with the English Golf Union Singing Hills are welcoming young people and families into golf.

A RESUME OF PERFORMANCE BY OUR MEDAL WINNING LADIES QUALIFYING FOR THE ENGLISH WOMENS GOLF ASSOCIATION REGIONAL FINALS OF 2008
Pam McIlroy & Kay Grindell’s Outing to Essex
No-one was more surprised than us when we were announced as the club’s winners of the English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) medal – the best four nett medal scores for each division in the 2008 season. This meant we were invited to play in a Regional Finals event held in Essex 20th August against the winners from other clubs. With our husbands in tow as caddies, off we set to Essex, Pam to Colchester GC and Kay to Frinton-on-Sea GC.
Gold Medal Final – Frinton-on-Sea. An old Links course right by the sea – unfortunately on a very windy day! My round didn’t get off to a great start when my playing partner didn’t show up….. so off I set playing on my own, with a marker and husband Mike as my caddy – all felt very odd! With a scrappy first, followed by a string of holes into a Force 6 wind, it didn’t make for a good outward 9. Out of bounds and a ditch cost me dear, and battling with the wind was a real challenge. Lots of encouragement from my ‘lady marker from Frinton’ and some excellent reads from my caddy managed to produce 3 birdies in five holes on the back 9, but alas, my 3 triple bogies had done too much damage by that stage! Clearly lots of the field had a tough day out there too, with lots of scores up in the 90’s nett! My +4 over the standard scratch meant I came in 26 out of 85. Lots of highs and lows out there….. but not sure Links golf on a windy day is for me!
Kay.

Silver Medal Final – Colchester
An old established parkland course. First tee nerves were soon dispatched with the aid of caddy Andy and a delightful 80 year old playing partner from Stowmarket ,who used to play off 10 but is still going strong off 23 despite having had most parts of her left side replaced - hope for us all! We were both determined to enjoy the day and hoped that we could do ourselves and respective Clubs justice. A promising start was soon scuppered by an unfortunate 8 on the 6th and this began a series of visits to bunkers on 6,7,8 & 9 which left me wondering if I was actually at the seaside with Kay! The round however continued steadily with some good scoring on the par 5s unfortunately offset by not such good going on the Par 3's. That aside , an enjoyable round was had by all and my +6 over nett 78 left me 23rd out of 80 ,all in all a lot better than I'd originally feared!
Pam.
Congratulations to both Kay and Pam on a gallant effort and great performance in 2008 to have qualified.
